Decluttering for a better start to 2025
Decluttering is much more than just cleaning. It's an act that can transform your home, your mind and your everyday life. As we welcome in a new year, it's the perfect time to reflect on what we really want to keep in our lives - be it objects, habits or thoughts.
In this blog, I'll start by explaining why we often put off decluttering and what we can do about it. We'll then explore the concrete benefits of a decluttered life, and I'll share with you some practical tips for getting started. Finally, I'll unveil my own New Year's resolutions, hoping to inspire you to take the plunge too.

Resolutions and procrastination: Why do we often procrastinate?
At the start of each new year, we have the opportunity to start afresh. Resolutions are a great way of setting goals and imagining a more aligned version of our daily lives. Yet we've all experienced that moment when those good intentions stay on the list without ever materializing. But why?
- Lack of time Our lives are filled with obligations and distractions. Finding a moment to focus on your resolutions can seem impossible. We put it off, hoping that a perfect day to get started will present itself... but it never does.
- Fear of failure : Committing to a resolution can be daunting. Whether it's the fear of not succeeding or the fear of not sticking with it over the long term, this fear can prevent us from taking the first step.
- Over-ambitious targets : Sometimes our resolutions are too big or too vague. "Do more sport", "be more organized", "change my habits"... These goals are laudable, but they often lack clarity, which makes achieving them complicated.

What else can we do?
Start small. Break down your resolutions into simple, achievable steps. For example, if your goal is to be more organized, start by sorting a drawer or devoting 10 minutes a day to this task.
Take a no-pressure approach. Remember that every little bit of progress counts. The important thing is to remain constant, not to change everything in one day.
Be easy on yourself. Failure is part of the process. Starting over or adjusting your goals along the way is totally acceptable.
How about adding decluttering to your list of resolutions for 2025? As an organizer, I can't help myself - it's kind of my thing! But seriously, decluttering isn't just about sorting your closets or stacking boxes neatly in a row. It's about giving yourself a lighter everyday life, a home that breathes and, let's be honest, a little less headache when it's time to look for your keys.
In the next section, I'll tell you about the surprising benefits of decluttering. You might be surprised at what it can do for you 😉
The benefits of a decluttered life
The impact of decluttering goes far beyond the visual. Here are a few concrete benefits of a tidier space:
- A calmer mind
An organized space reduces mental overload. You'll feel lighter and more at peace when you walk into an uncluttered room. Decluttering has a major impact on your mental well-being. Learn more about the link between disorganization and mental health. - Greater efficiency
When everything is in its place, you waste less time looking for your things. This simplifies your daily routines and lets you make the most of your day. - A sense of control
Decluttering is about regaining control over your environment. It can give you a real sense of accomplishment and mastery. - A welcoming environment
An uncluttered space is more pleasant to live in and share with your loved ones. It creates a positive atmosphere for you and your guests.
How to start decluttering gently
Getting started with decluttering can seem daunting, but it doesn't have to be. Here are my tips for a smooth start:

- Start small
Choose a simple project, like a drawer or a shelf. This will allow you to feel initial success quickly and keep your motivation intact. - Set realistic goals
There's no need to aim for perfection or to do everything in a single day. Give yourself time and celebrate every step you take. - Don't be afraid to ask for help
Calling on professional servicesYou can also ask a friend to accompany you, which can make the process more pleasant and less overwhelming. - Sort with intention
For each object, ask yourself, "Does this object bring me value or worth or utility of any kind?" If not, it may be time to part with it. - Create a clear storage plan
Once you've finished sorting, think about organizing what you keep in a functional way. Each item must have its own place to prevent clutter from returning.
