Back to school: 5 tips for an organized home
Back-to-school season is fast approaching, and with it comes the whirlwind of shopping lists, schedules to keep, lunches to pack and homework to manage. It's an exciting time, but also a source of stress for many families. Yet there's a simple way to approach the back-to-school period with greater calm: prepare your environment in advance. By organizing the key areas of your home, you can make routine easier... and give yourself a little peace of mind.
1. A bag-and-lunch corner that works for real
As soon as the kids get home from school, their bags are deposited... somewhere. To avoid mountains of coats and forgotten lunch boxes, create a well-designed reception area near the entrance.
- Child-height wall hooksThey can hang up their own bags, coats and lunch bags as soon as they arrive.
- Identified bins or basketsone for each child. Personal belongings such as water bottles, sunglasses, toques and mittens can be stored there.
- Shelf or small rackfor parents' items or things to remember in the morning (e.g. signed forms, homework).
This zone becomes a reassuring landmark. Everyone knows where to find (and drop off) their stuff. And bonus: you avoid panicked searches at 7:45!

2. A well-organized, age-appropriate homework area
Homework is part of everyday life, but it can quickly become a source of conflict... especially if the space isn't suitable.
- A designated desk or tablein a quiet location.
- Filing bins or drawers for storing notebooks, loose sheets, pencils, etc.
- Nomadic kitsPerfect for youngsters who like to do their homework close to you (on the counter, kitchen table...).
StéZen tip: Use labels (with text and/or pictograms, depending on age) to help your children put things away themselves. When organization is clear and visual, they become more independent.
3. Set up a visual routine
When everyone knows what they have to do and when, mornings are smoother and evenings more relaxed.
- A morning and evening routine chart for each child (e.g. dressing, eating breakfast, brushing teeth, putting on shoes).
- A family calendar with the week's activities: homework, sports classes, special events.
- Pictograms or colors to help younger visitors find their way around.
Involving your children in the creation of these tools makes them more motivated to follow the routine. And the more autonomous your children become, the more peace of mind you gain!

4. School supplies: neither too much nor too little
Back at school, there's often an excess of supplies that end up piled up in a drawer... until we forget they exist.
- Make a sorting what you already have before buying new.
- Create a extras" stationglue, lead pencils, scissors... anything that can help out when an item gets lost (or broken!).
- Store everything in clear or labelled containers in a central location in the home.
The result: you avoid unnecessary duplication, save money... and limit the "Mamaaaan, I'm out of pencils!
5. Create a space to return to calm
Because school days are long and demanding, it's a good idea to include a relaxation zone in the games room accessible to children.
- A small reading corner with cushions.
- A box of free drawing or craft materials.
- A soft atmosphere (subdued lighting, calm music, etc.).
It's not always big or complicated to set up. But it's an effective way to help your children make the transition from school to home.
