SUMMER MINIMALISM: ENJOY THE PLEASURES OF SUMMER WITH LESS CLUTTER

Ah, summer! Sunny days, barbecues, vacations... It's the perfect season to relax and enjoy pleasant moments at home. And to make your summer experience even more enjoyable, why not choose to live summer with less clutter? Summer minimalism is an approach that involves reducing the amount of stuff you own to allow you to concentrate on the essentials.

In fact, with forest fires raging across Canada and elsewhere in the world in recent weeks, it's no longer possible to deny that global warming is a real problem that's pushing us to become even more aware of how much we consume and how much we waste.

So in this article, I'm going to talk about the benefits of reducing clutter during the summer and highlight the benefits of a minimalist lifestyle to help you better manage your consumption while making the most of this sunny season.

Get ready to free up your space and your mind!

Free yourself from clutter

Summer is the perfect time to sort out your home. Donate or recycle items you no longer need, clothes you don't feel like wearing and accessories that are cluttering up your closets.

By donating them to reuse or donation centers, not only are you helping people in need, but you're also creating more open, airy spaces, conducive to relaxation and serenity.

Please note: if you think your item is fit for the garbage can, please make sure it isn't better disposed of at your nearest ecocenter before throwing it away. You can download the complete list here: list of ecocentres.

Simplify your wardrobe

In summer, we tend to prefer light, casual outfits. Simplify your wardrobe by keeping only the clothes you particularly like and wear frequently.

According to the Pareto principle (the 80/20 principle)it is said that we would only wear 20% of our wardrobe 80% of the time. This means that we don't use the majority of our clothes and could easily say goodbye to ⅘ of our wardrobe without us really realizing it.

So opt for versatile clothes that can be easily combined to create different looks. You'll save time in the morning and feel lighter with fewer choices to make.

Live for the moment

Summer minimalism promotes mindfulness and appreciation of the present moment. When you reduce clutter and distractions, you free your mind to fully enjoy the pleasures of summer.

You'll be better able to relax by the pool, marvel at a beautiful sunset or enjoy a family picnic. Put aside material concerns and focus on experiences that bring you joy.

Prioritize experiences over material goods

Summer is a time for enriching experiences. Instead of spending your money on things that add up, invest in memorable experiences.

Explore new places, plan outdoor getaways, attend concerts and festivals or organize get-togethers with loved ones. The memories you create will last far longer than material possessions.

Enjoy nature

Summer offers a multitude of outdoor activities. With less clutter, you can devote more time to nature. Organize hikes, bike rides, family picnics, a kayak or paddleboard outing, a camping weekend or days at the beach.

Nature is an effective remedy for stress and nourishes the soul. The more you surround yourself with nature, the more connected, fulfilled and ZEN you'll feel.

Promote relaxation

Summer minimalism encourages relaxation and rest. Create a space dedicated to relaxation in your home, whether it's a reading corner, a hammock in the garden or a Zen space indoors.

Eliminate distractions, such as electronic gadgets, and allow yourself to relax fully. Minimalism helps you create a sanctuary of calm where you can recharge your batteries.

In short, adopting a minimalist approach allows you to enjoy summer pleasures to the full. By reducing clutter, you create an environment conducive to relaxation, mindfulness and connection with nature. Prioritize precious moments and experiences over material possessions. Lighten your space and your mind, and get ready for a memorable and fulfilling summer. Remember, summer minimalism is an invitation to focus on the essentials and savor every moment of this sunny season.
