Yes, summer is over and autumn is already showing its colors in some regions of Quebec. Are you ready to replace your Bermuda shorts with your woollens?<\/span><\/p>\n

Even if many people are reluctant (I like the double entendre here) to have to tidy up <\/span>Unless you're a \"snowbird\" and leave for Florida as soon as the first autumn leaves fall, but we're not all that lucky ;-P\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

So I suggest 5 steps<\/strong> to help you prepare for season change<\/strong> :<\/span><\/p>\n

1. SORT<\/span><\/h4>\n

Before you store your things, make sure you're not using your storage space unnecessarily for things you no longer need.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Take the time to review clothing and items that are damaged, no longer useful or out of fashion. You can divide them into four (4) main categories:\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

  1. For sale<\/strong> (the item must be in good or excellent condition).<\/span><\/li>\n
  2. To give<\/strong> (the item is used, but in good enough condition to be of use to someone in need).<\/span><\/li>\n
  3. For recycling<\/strong> (item is somewhat damaged, cannot be sold or given away, but could be used for other purposes).\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n
  4. Disposable<\/strong> (the item is too damaged to be sold, given away or recycled).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    So, before you throw anything away, consider the option of encouraging a Quebec company<\/strong> and make a a positive gesture for the environment<\/strong> at the same time!\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    2. WASH BEFORE STORING<\/span><\/h4>\n

    It can be tempting to skip steps and put away your summer clothes without washing them first.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    However, it is preferable not to wait for the return of spring before doing so, as the residues<\/strong> of antiperspirant, dry-cleaning product or soap could contribute to the tissue damage<\/strong> and generate foul odors<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    So take the time to do a few little wash loads<\/strong> and make sure that your clothes are well dry<\/strong> before storing.<\/span><\/p>\n

    For preserve your property<\/strong> (especially the fabric of your clothes), it is better to choose hermetic plastic bins<\/strong> or rubber<\/strong> ! They offer a protection<\/strong> against humidity and stack easily<\/strong> for optimal storage.<\/span><\/p>\n

    4. KEEP MOTHS AWAY<\/span><\/h4>\n

    For keep moths away<\/strong>those little bugs that leave holes in your sweaters, opt for a natural solution<\/strong> rather than the mothballs used by our grandmothers.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

    These mothballs<\/strong> are chemical<\/strong> and harmful<\/strong> for your health. It is preferable to use <\/span>cedar<\/strong>the lavender<\/strong>from clove<\/strong>theeucalyptus<\/strong> or the rosemary-thyme<\/strong> to keep the little beasts at bay.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n
