Seasons of transition, like autumn or spring, are perfect times to take stock, put things in order and prepare for what's to come.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In autumn, the days get shorter, the light changes, we spend more time indoors... and we start to feel that need to create a cocoon. This kind of seasonal housework is something I really enjoy doing - and recommend to everyone. It helps you regain control, regain some clarity and lay the foundations for a gentler season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are some of my must-haves for effective fall cleaning, inside and out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>1. Preparing the exterior for winter<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Before the frost sets in, it's important to take care of the outside of the house. It's often overlooked, but it makes all the difference when winter arrives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Storing garden furniture<\/strong> Clean chairs, cushions, parasols, etc. and store them under cover to prevent damage.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>A final lap of the pitch<\/strong> We're always on the lookout for new ideas: picking up children's toys and garden accessories, pruning perennials and raking up fallen leaves.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Preparing winter tools<\/strong> For example, put out the shovels, check that the snowblower is working and buy salt or sand in advance.<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A word of advice: take advantage of these cool but still sunny days to do these tasks gently, it makes everything more pleasant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>2. So it's the perfect time to give it a little love.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Here are the areas to be cleaned and reorganized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>fridge<\/strong> and the <strong>freezer<\/strong> Throw away what's expired, wash the shelves, and reorganize so that everything is visible.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>spices<\/strong> We accumulate so many! Check dates, sort by type, and replace what's missing.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The famous <strong>plastic dish drawer<\/strong> a classic. Make sure everything has a lid, nothing is too damaged, and sort.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udca1 I recommend you read my article \"<a href=\"https:\/\/stezen.ca\/en\/organisation-des-contenants-en-plastique-dans-la-cuisine\/\"><strong>Organizing plastic containers in the kitchen<\/strong><\/a>\".<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>drawers<\/strong> and <strong>cabinets<\/strong> Empty, clean and tidy up.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Devices such as the <strong>hood<\/strong>the <strong>oven<\/strong> and the <strong>microwave<\/strong> : Clean them thoroughly (and it feels so good afterwards!).<br><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>A good kitchen clean-up is the kind of thing you put off... but once it's done, everyday life becomes much simpler.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:50px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2>4. Deep cleaning of common areas<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Autumn is also a good time to give the rest of the house a facelift:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul>\n<li>Pack<strong> furniture<\/strong> to vacuum and wash forgotten corners.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wash the <strong>doors<\/strong>the <strong>walls<\/strong> and <strong>baseboards<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take the opportunity to <strong>windows<\/strong> while it's still not too cold.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Clean or have inspected <strong>fireplace<\/strong>if you have a home.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Check or service the <strong>heating system<\/strong> and clean the filters of the <strong>air conditioner<\/strong>.<br><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>And of course... remove the <strong>mosquito nets<\/strong>clean and tidy up until spring. Why should you do this? Because in winter, they can retain moisture and warp with the cold.
